Why Amarli Army

was created...

Welcome to Amarli Army - a community built on love, courage and hope, inspired by the incredible strength of Amarli Broome. Amarli is a beautiful young girl from Wollongong, NSW, living with GRIK2, a rare and complex genetic disorder. Despite the daily challenges she faces including epilepsy, respiratory difficulties and motor impairments. Amarli meets each day with remarkable resilience and a radiant spirit that touches everyone around her. What began with family and friends rallying around Amarli has grown into an incredible community of people and businesses who want to make a difference. Over the years, Amarli Army has brought people together to raise awareness and funds through initiatives such as the i98FM Illawarra Convoy, supporting the important work of the Illawarra Community Foundation and the families and causes it assists. We also support organisations such as the Cure GRIN Foundation and its work to advance research, understanding and potential treatments for rare GRIN-related disorders. At the heart of Amarli Army is a belief in the power of community, compassion and hope. Whether through supporting our fundraising activities, attending an event, purchasing merchandise, becoming a sponsor, sharing Amarli’s story or simply lending a hand, every contribution helps us continue making a difference. Never, never, never give up.

Amarli's Progress

Amarli has spent a significant part of her 8 years in and out of Wollongong Hospital and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, facing challenges that most of us could never imagine.

In August 2023, her health deteriorated significantly due to severe respiratory issues, beginning another difficult chapter in Amarli’s journey. Since then, she has experienced many hospital admissions and continues to amaze everyone around her with her incredible strength and resilience.

Whenever possible, Amarli is cared for at home surrounded by the people she loves most. Her parents, Jade and Lee, extended family, dedicated carers, medical specialists, therapists and other health professionals all work together to provide the complex care and support she needs.

Through every hospital stay, every setback and every little win, Amarli continues to inspire everyone around her.
